How to set up, edit, and accept tips

Sync™ helps you maximise customer tips, no matter the payment method. Follow the steps below to turn on and customise the tip options your customers will see.

Turning on tipping: #

  1. Go to the “More“screen in the app via the grey icon either in the top right or bottom right corner (depending on your app version)

  2. Scroll down and select “Tipping“

  3. You then choose from”Smart Tipping” (explained below), “Percentages“, or “Fixed values“

  4. Edit the 3 pre-set options you’d like your customers to see and then select “Update“. (In addition to the 3 pre-set options, your customer will always see an option to enter a ‘Custom’ amount on the card reader.)

Please note: Transaction fees apply to tips as they are included in the overall transaction value. Merchants are responsible for distributing tips received to team members as relevant. Tips received will be shown in your revenue reports.

For more information on tipping please see below:

What’s Smart Tipping? #

With our Smart Tippingfeature you don’t have to choose between percentages or fixed values – you can decide, based on the size of the transaction, which you would like to appear.

For example: you can set the tip options to be 10%, 12.5% and 15% for transactions over £12 and automatically show £1, £2 and £3 for transactions under £12.

This helps you maximise tips!

Tipping on the card reader #

Once you have set up tipping, customers will be shown the option to “Add Tip?” on the card reader.

If confirmed, the 3 options you set via the Sync™ app and a 4th “Custom” option are present.

Tipping via a payment link/QR code #

Once the customer has clicked on your payment link or scanned your QR code they will be redirected to a secure website to complete the payment.

The 3 options you set prior via the Sync™ app and a 4th “Custom” option will be present.

If “Custom” is selected, a window will pop up allowing the customer to edit the amount, as shown in the screenshots below.

The tip amount will then be visible before completing the transaction.
